02 is a Metro Manila landline area code, not a mobile prefix
02 is not a Globe, Smart or DITO number. It is the landline area code for Metro Manila. Metro Manila, plus parts of Rizal, Cavite and Bulacan served from the NCR exchange. Since October 2019 Manila landlines are eight digits, so a full number reads 02 8XXX XXXX; that leading 8 is why “0288 what network” is such a common search.
What network is 02?
None. Landlines belong to a fixed-line provider (PLDT, Globe At Home, Converge, Eastern, and regional carriers) and have no mobile network. Mobile unli-call promos usually exclude landlines unless they say “all-net + landline”.
Dialing a 02 number
- From a Philippine mobile: dial 02 followed by the 8-digit number.
- From abroad: +63 2 followed by the number.
- From a landline in the same area: just the 8-digit number.
Got a call from a 02 number?
It is a landline in Metro Manila. Banks, offices and call centres use them, and so do scammers who spoof them. If the caller asks for an OTP, PIN or payment, hang up; see how to spot scam calls.
