Landline vs mobile numbers in the Philippines: how to tell them apart - anongnetwork.com

If a number starts with 02, 032, 082 or another two- or three-digit code that is not 09 or 08, it is a landline. Landlines have no mobile network; they belong to a place and a fixed-line provider (PLDT, Globe At Home, Converge, and others). That is why searches like “0288 what network” cannot be answered with Globe or Smart.

How to recognise a landline

  • Metro Manila: 02 followed by eight digits since October 2019, e.g. 02 8123 4567. The leading 8 is part of the number, which is why 0288 looks like a prefix.
  • Provinces: a three-digit area code (032 Cebu, 033 Iloilo, 082 Davao, 045 Pampanga, 074 Baguio) followed by seven digits.
  • Mobile: 09XX or 089X followed by seven digits, eleven digits total.

Use the landline area code lookup to identify a code, and the prefix checker for anything starting with 09 or 08.

Calling between landline and mobile

From a mobile, dial the landline with its area code: 02 8123 4567 or 032 123 4567. From a landline, dial the full eleven-digit mobile number with the 0. Landline-to-mobile calls are charged by the fixed-line provider at its own rate; mobile unli-call promos usually exclude landlines unless the promo says “all net including landline”.

Numbers that are neither

Some numbers people search are not Philippine numbers at all: international codes routed through VoIP, short codes (2-5 digits used by carriers and banks), or spoofed caller IDs that mimic a local format. If a number does not fit either pattern above, treat an unexpected call from it with caution.

What network is 0288?

None. 02 is the Metro Manila landline area code and the 8 is the first digit of an 8-digit landline number.

Can I text a landline?

No. Landlines do not receive SMS.

Is 028 a mobile prefix?

No. It is the start of a Metro Manila landline.
